15 Castleknock Cycle Club Members traveled north on Saturday 4th November, about a 90 min drive to Rostrevor near Warrenpoint. Some brought bikes, others had organised rentals from Eastcoast Adventure, who operate from the car park at the base of the trails.
The spin starts with a pretty tough ascent for about 30mins to gain altitude for the fun to follow. And boy is it fun. A complete eye opener for anyone not having done this stuff before. Exhilarating, tough, scary but huge fun. So 33km followed of navigating trails through mountain side, forest and rocky tracks. We tackled it in 2 broad groupings looking out for each other. Half way through, a couple descended as time was ticking on and progress was slower. Our road skills were redundant but we were very conscious of safety and tiredness as the morning wore on,looking out for each other.
Once all down safely and showered, the group gathered for a well earned lunch – a great day out that will be repeated!
